Did the person who decided upon the acronym OCD have an obsession with words of three syllables?I'm Not a Celebrity is Paul's story - a 'fictional autobiographical' account of the most recent ten years of his life. Paul isn't a celebrity. He's not a sporting legend, pop superstar, actor, TV personality, or a person who is the cousin of a friend of someone who had an affair with a 'Z-list' docu-reality-soap-star fifteen years ago. He hasn't had a life of obvious interest, whether through achievements of pioneering medical science or engineering, adventure or athletic prowess, philanthropic generosity and charity work undertaken, or his challenge of overcoming a traumatic childhood, bullying, or discrimination.Paul's in his mid-forties. He's just had a career change following working for the local council over the last ten years. It was a mundane office job. Nothing exciting. He lives with his partner and son in a home that they occasionally struggle to pay the mortgage and bills for. So what's his story?Nothing out of the ordinary I guess - similar to the vast majority of the population. No film premières or ostentatiously decadent parties to be attending night after night. No tales of travelling across the world (or to the moon), staying in the most luxurious penthouse suites that money can buy (though not on the moon - not yet anyway). Paul's story is simply that of an average person. You or me. Doing the weekly shopping. Commuting to work. Dealing with the 'stresses' of 21st Century life. How could we cope now without Sky+? Did that person who decided upon the acronym OCD have the three syllable obsession? Why does the rickety-ness of a bicycle define the posh-ness level of the person riding it? And at what age does a breeze become a draught? It's the same thing isn't it? Just a person's differing perception of fresh air. These are important issues that Paul's story will delve into. Many of us go to work to do a job we despise, or at least not really like. We spend wasted hours each week, stuck on buses and trains, or in our little 'tin-box' cars. We have the joys of having to contact call-centres, putting up with our egotistical pretentious moronic work colleagues, and being told that there's an imaginary item |in the bagging area|.This is life. The real life that we can relate to. And as humans we can normally see the funny side to its many frustrations, despite our moans and grumbles that would appear to be on the contrary. 'In a nutshell', Paul's story is snapshots of his life, primarily centred around the last ten years whilst working for his local council. The characters he works with, contemplating murder due to an annoying mobile phone ringtone, his farcical dating exploits, the commute to work, and being emasculated at the builders' merchant. It's his thought-provoking ideas and light-hearted comedic viewpoint on everyday situations that you're sure to take a step back and think, 'yeah, I know that person', or 'that happens to me all the time'.
